In this section, you'll see that I have created a plan to make some improvements over the course of one year that will heavily impact the quality of student achievement and teacher success. I have a good relationship with my director and have asked for her input on many aspects of what she wants her school to become. My mentor, the Elementary Head, has been amazing for guiding my plans in the way of what will resonate with the Korean staff so that they are on the same page as the foreign staff.
Click on the "Priority" links to see the progress of my plan. I have chosen four of the most important areas we need to improve at school.
In my opinion, it is very important that a school has teachers that are able to get their class to a similar average in skills and abilities. If there is too large of a gap between various classes of the same grade level, or different grade levels that have been in the school for a similar number of years, it will show parents that the school is not qualified to teach their children and promote parent favoritism or competition for specific teachers instead.
I will also use this priority to discuss why I am such an advocate for the natural approach.
In order to reach the director's goals or take meaningful steps towards them, we need to get the local staff on the same page. It will be a while for everyone to accept the standards we want to meet, but at the very least, we have to see if they can adapt to our curriculum and pedagogy.
Here, I do my best to convey the message in a format that is easy for non-English speakers and people with limited experience abroad to absorb.
We only had a partial fire safety plan so when we studied the topic of risks and safety, my professor encouraged me to bring it to the attention of management. They agreed that this is something we need to implement.
Our school has been using paper for just about everything in spite of our desire to promote eco-friendly habits. However, we end up losing many physical records of important information such as student backgrounds, teacher issues and more. After helping establish a Google workspace account for the school, I thought of different ways we could use Google effectively to hold on to important data to help us make better decisions in terms of teacher assignment and duties as well as student focused curriculum and placement.
